Heavy K and Reason engage in heated exchange on Twitter

Pretoria Today       Thursday, September 26, 2019
Reason took to Twitter on Tuesday, 24 September 2019, to advise upcoming artists on how to establish themselves in the music industry. The Azania rapper advised artists to first make a name for themselves in their communities before seeking national acclaim.
One of his followers disagreed, suggesting that social media has taken over and upcoming artists should utilise the platforms.

The user then used Heavy K as an example of an artist that garnered national acclaim through posting his music online. In his response to the follower, Reason stated, “Worst example. Radio made Heavy K guy. I’m asking you who was discovered and completely blew up off the internet. You had a better chance saying Killer Kau. Either way, my point remains. Grow your brand slowly. On the ground and the internet. Don’t try be famous in a day.”

Feeling slated, Heavy K commented on the post, writing, “Radio made who? I respect you but [do not talk about experiences you know nothing of]” Reason first attempted to justify his post writing, “Heavy. With all due respect, I’m talking about the tools you had that allowed you to get your work out. I’m explaining to him that you weren’t solely made by internet. You had radio to allow your music to get to the whole country. Did this come across as a diss?”

However, Heavy K remained unmoved, replying by saying, “Let me just say get my name out of your examples because [you do not know me] Not even a single time [have I had] reason to talk about your name because I do not know your come up and you don’t know mine, otherwise nothing but love.”

Many social media users pointed out that Heavy K’s response was unwarranted, with one follower stating, “There was no need to be this rude, especially when he said “with all due respect”.
