Linda Mtoba addresses abusive social media users

Pretoria Today       Thursday, September 26, 2019
Linda initially created a thread sharing how social media users on Twitter randomly decide to body shame and insult her. She started the thread by saying, “Someone just came into my comments and called me a ‘fatty boom boom,’ I mean it’s 23:00 at night, man.” She then added that, “If people could see the type of vile things people say on this here internet everyday unprovoked, every day.”

The River actress went on to share, “As much as I block and delete, I’ve still read it and it hurts. It’s not nice.” As if to prove a point, one social media user took to her comments sections and swore at her using a derogatory isiZulu term. Linda used the opportunity to show her followers what she meant by retweeting the insult on her timeline.

One social media user lambasted the Twitter user by referencing Gabrielle Union’s words on the futility of women-on-women hate, asking, “After that comment, did your house get any bigger? Was money put in your bank account after tearing this woman down? Did you get the job you were hoping for? Did you get any happier? Tell us.”

Another social media user attempted to explain her behaviour by suggesting, “Unfortunately people seek attention.” Linda later shared a post by a follower that read, “[Your] third trimester is two million years long. Nevermind the fact that it’s none of your business… Shut the f*ck up sometimes.”
